For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, Zero Gunk is the data controller. That means we decide what personal data to collect and how it’s used.

2. What Data We Collect

We only collect what we actually need to arrange and carry out your booking. Nothing more. Here’s the full list:

We don’t collect sensitive categories of data (health information, political opinions, biometric data, etc.). We have no interest in it and no reason to ask.

3. Why We Collect It

Every piece of data we hold serves a specific purpose. Here’s a breakdown:

• To arrange your booking – We need your name, address, and contact details to schedule the appointment and find your property. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
• To carry out the service – Appliance details help our technician prepare the right equipment. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
• To contact you – Appointment confirmations, reminders, follow-ups if there’s an issue. We might text or call the day before to confirm. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
• To handle complaints or disputes – If something goes wrong, we need records of what was agreed. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
• To improve our website – Anonymous analytics data helps us understand which pages people visit and how they found us. Legal basis: legitimate interest (we use this to make the site more useful, not to target you with ads).

We do not use your data for marketing unless you’ve explicitly asked us to. We don’t send newsletters, promotional emails, or text campaigns. If that ever changes, we’ll ask your permission first.

4. How Long We Keep It

We don’t hold onto data indefinitely. Here’s our retention schedule:

• Booking records (name, address, service details) – Kept for 24 months after the appointment. This covers the window for any follow-up issues, warranty questions, or repeat bookings.
• Financial records (invoices, payment confirmations) – Kept for 6 years as required by HMRC for tax purposes.
• Website analytics data – Anonymised and aggregated. No personally identifiable information is retained beyond 26 months.
• Contact form submissions – Deleted within 12 months if no booking follows.

After these periods, data is permanently deleted from our systems. If you want it removed sooner, just ask (see section 7).

5. Who We Share It With

Short answer: almost nobody. We don’t sell, rent, or trade your data. Full stop.

The only situations where your data might be shared:

• Our technicians – They need your name, address, and phone number to carry out the appointment. They don’t retain this data after the visit.
• Website hosting provider – Our website is hosted on servers that process your data when you visit or submit a form. They act as a data processor under our instruction.
• Accounting software – Invoice records are stored in our bookkeeping system for tax compliance.
• Law enforcement – Only if we’re legally required to comply with a valid court order or regulatory request. This has never happened.

We do not use your data for advertising. We don’t pass it to marketing agencies. We don’t sell it to lead generation companies. We think that practice is appalling and we want no part in it.

6. Cookies & Website Tracking

Our website uses cookies. Here’s what they do:

• Essential cookies – These make the website work properly. Things like remembering your cookie consent preference, keeping forms functional, and maintaining security. You can’t opt out of these without breaking the site.
• Analytics cookies – We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. This data is anonymised – we can see that “someone from Manchester visited the prices page” but not who specifically. You can opt out of analytics tracking through your browser settings or by using the Google Analytics opt-out browser extension.

We don’t use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or social media tracking scripts. When you leave our site, we’re not following you around the internet with ads. That’s not our style.
