How It Started – and Why We’re Still Here
Zero Gunk didn’t begin with a business plan or a fancy launch. It started in 2013 with a second-hand van, a dip tank bought off eBay, and a genuine frustration with how most cleaning companies worked.
We watched too many cleaners spray a kitchen with chemicals that made your eyes water, wipe down surfaces for ten minutes, and call it a job. We thought there had to be a better approach. One that actually dismantled the oven and cleaned each part properly – without filling the house with fumes.
That first year was slow. A handful of bookings a week, mostly through word of mouth in Chorlton and Didsbury. But people talked. One clean led to a neighbour’s booking, which led to their landlord calling, which led to a letting agency contract.
Twelve years later, we’ve cleaned over 2,400 ovens across Greater Manchester. The van’s been upgraded (twice). The dip tank’s industrial-grade now. But the principle hasn’t shifted: no toxic chemicals, no shortcuts, no half-done jobs.
What We Stand For – It’s Not Complicated
Non-Toxic, Always
Every product we carry is biodegradable and fume-free. We made that decision in 2013 and never looked back. Your kids and pets can be in the next room while we work. That’s how safe these products are.
Proper Disassembly
We don’t spray-and-wipe. We take your oven apart – racks, door panels, fan covers, seals – and clean each piece in our heated dip tank at 85°C. It takes longer. It costs us more in time. But the results speak for themselves.
Honest Pricing
We quote you a price. That’s what you pay. No call-out fees, no “oh but that’s extra” once we arrive. We’ve seen competitors do that. It’s a rubbish way to run a business and we won’t be part of it.
Local, Not Corporate
We’re not a franchise. There’s no head office in London deciding how we operate. We’re a Manchester business that serves Manchester households. If something’s wrong, you speak to us directly – not a call centre.

They Forget We Were There
No mess, no fumes, no disruption. We lay floor coverings, bring our own water if needed, and clean up after ourselves. Half our customers tell us they didn’t even realise we’d finished until we knocked on the door.

Fully independent. We’ve been approached by franchise networks a few times, but we prefer to keep things local. It means we control the quality, the products, and the customer service directly.
We’re a small team – deliberately so. Every technician is trained in-house using our specific process. We’d rather do fewer jobs well than rush through a packed schedule. That said, we cover all of Greater Manchester comfortably with our current team.
Yes. We carry full public liability insurance. We’re happy to provide proof on request – landlords and letting agents ask for this regularly, and we’ve always been able to supply it without issue.
